Personally, I don't agree the ranking because Lin's stats from last season doesn't represent his actual abilities. Here are my reasons:
- PG vs Spot up Shooter: Lin was not played as the primary facilitator / floor general with sufficient ball handling time. He was mostly a spot up shooter in Houston's superstar-centered free flowing offense (not as a Point Guard 50%+ of the time)
- Bench vs Starter mins: Lin was coming off the bench vs most of other PG on the rankings list are playing starters minutes. If Lin is on this list, it'd be only fair if other bench players are as well. Lin played 28.9 min/game. Which is "coincidentally" less than any players ranked above him. All the top 10 ranked players play atleast 34min/game. Even Beverley played 31min/game
- Play-making TO vs non-play-making TO : The writer Shane Young mentioned Lin's higher turnovers, but Beverley just passes to Harden 99% of the time. So yes I agree Lin is ranked above Beverley, but it shouldn't even be brought up as an "issue". In fact, Beverley's TO is more costly for not making plays much because if you just give the ball to one person... and you still turn it over, then you got a problem.
I don't blame Shane. I just disagree with the ranking. It's hard for Shane to really compare given above circumstances. Stats are not helping either because stats are directly results from above. One can simply not give a fair ranking unless Lin is put into a same situation as Chris Paul ... or just his Linsanity days roles, touches, and minutes.
